Hicks & Goulbourn

(Doors and bar open at 7:00pm)

Steve Hicks started playing guitar at 13. Early tuition was in the classical genre and later he studied fingerstyle jazz guitar with Duck Baker. Nowadays you could expect to hear Steve, seemingly effortlessly, play classic ragtime, swing jazz, blues, Celtic, early and modern classical pieces. He has given guitar workshops and masterclasses at venues including the Stamford International Guitar Festival and the Old Town School of Folk Music, Chicago. He is also a qualified luthier specialising in early and modern fretted instruments.

Lynn Goulbourn grew up with the harmonies of Crosby Stills and Nash and The Beach Boys and the melodic tones of James Taylor and Joni Mitchell, the sound of Motown, Stevie Wonder and Diana Ross. Later influences included Steeleye Span, June Tabor, Annie Lennox and Indigo Girls. Singing has been a passion throughout her life and more recently she has enjoyed vocal and harmony workshops led and inspired by Maddy Prior and Abbie Lathe.

Steve Hicks is the secret jewel of British guitar playing - Clive Carroll

Your performance was superb, you ‘smashed it’! Such fluidity of singing teamed with Steve‘s awesome guitar… Excellent. - Maddy Prior

Blown away last evening ... by Steve Hicks and Lynn Goulbourn. It was a privilege to be at their show ... Cracking repertoire from the two of them, some top-drawer original songs and Steve Hicks is easily the outstanding acoustic guitarist regularly working the folk club circuit at the moment. Total musical entertainment not to be missed!- Eddie Walker
