Pellingmans Saraband

Pellingmans’ Saraband

Saturday 11th February at 7:30pm (Doors and bar open at 7:00pm)

Jacob Heringman and Susanna Pell have been musical colleagues for almost 25 years and have both enjoyed distinguished careers; Jacob as a soloist and with many prominent period ensembles; Susanna as a freelance performer and member of the pioneering groups, Fretwork and The Dufay Collective. Together, as Pellingmans’ Saraband, they bring some of the greatest music of the Renaissance and Early Baroque period to life. The following is a very brief snapshot of their background, for more detail visit their web site. This will help you realise how fortunate we are to have them play at Warkworth.

Susanna Pell studied music at the University of York and went on to study the viol with Jordi Savall at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Basel. In 1987 she joined the innovative medieval ensemble The Dufay Collective and a year later gave her first performance with the world renowned viol consort Fretwork. With these groups she toured widely incuding USA, Japan, South America, Australia, the Middle East and India. With Fretwork in recent years she has explored a large body of newly commissioned music by such composers as George Benjamin, Orlando Gough, Alexander Goehr, Elvis Costello, Gavin Bryars and Tan Dun. She performed on the soundtrack of several films, among them Zeffirelli's Hamlet, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and The Da Vinci Code. She appears on Kate Bush's 2005 release Aerial.

Jacob Heringman studied with Jakob Lindberg at the Royal College of Music in London, and later with Pat O’Brien in New York. He quickly established himself as one of the world’s most respected and most innovative solo lute players, and a much sought-after ensemble player performing regularly throughout Europe and North and South America. He has made many CD and radio recordings of medieval and renaissance music with leading English ensembles, including The Rose Consort of Viols, Fretwork, Musicians of the Globe, The King’s Singers, The New London Consort, Virelai and The Dufay Collective. His lute playing can be heard on the soundtracks of many films, including Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Kingdom of Heaven, Elizabeth: The Golden Age, Ridley Scott’s Robin Hood, and The Hobbit. Jacob teaches the lute at York, Durham, and Newcastle Universities and at various Lute Society (UK and USA) and other summer schools.
